LIVING WITH WATER IN MIND
Toronto, ON
Challenge
The living area needed to feel calm, cohesive, and intentional within a relatively compact footprint. In addition to creating a balanced and inviting living space, the design also needed to accommodate a functional work zone — without introducing visual clutter or disrupting the overall sense of ease.
The challenge was to integrate a TV and a home office in a way that felt considered, not compromised.
Approach
The design was guided by restraint, clarity, and multifunctionality. A neutral foundation allowed the space to remain open and light, while thoughtful layering introduced depth. Custom built-ins became central to the solution — designed to seamlessly integrate a TV unit with a concealed, convertible desk. This allowed the workspace to appear only when needed, maintaining a clean, uninterrupted visual flow.
Materiality played a key role, with warm wood tones and subtle detailing adding richness while staying within a cohesive palette. Furniture placement and artwork were carefully scaled to reinforce balance and proportion throughout.
Solution
The result is a light-filled living space that feels composed, flexible, and quietly refined. The custom built-in functions as both a TV unit and a convertible desk, supporting work-from-home needs without visually dominating the room. When closed, the space reads as a calm, cohesive living area anchored by a neutral sectional, layered textiles, and warm wood elements.
Oversized artwork establishes a focal point, bringing structure and balance, while the overall composition supports both daily routines and moments of rest. The space now adapts effortlessly — offering clarity, comfort, and a deeper sense of intentional living.
